Default Buyer Beware...Vintage Cigarette Pack Seller

Posted By: Dan Mathewson

I had a pretty bad experience recently with a seller of "vintage" cigarette packs.

I can't recall the seller's handle on eBay (infortunately, or I'd list it, too) but his name is Galbraith from Topeka, Kansas. If you run into this guy, turn and run away. Very dishonest and misrepresentative of what he sells.

He stated on his auction that he was selling a vintage, unopened pack of Mecca Cigarettes - the kind that Mecca Baseball cards were packaged in. He didn't guarantee that a card was IN the pack, he just STATED that they were the kinds of packs that the cards were packaged in.

And, when I bought the pack, I believed what he said. Whether or not there was a card inside was immaterial to me. I just wanted the vintage pack -- the kind of pack the cards came in -- for my HOF display that I'm making.

Of course, when I got the pack, I immeidately held it up next to one of my vintage Mecca Cards. Gee, guess what...even when the card is folded, the pack is about 3/4" shorter than the card is when folded.

I asked him, in writing, for a refund -- got his reply today. He yakked about buyers remorse and all the typical crap that sellers drone on about when they've just ripped someone off over eBay. SO:

The dude is dishonest, he'll rip you off for every dime he can get, and then he'll tell you to F-O (in so many words) when you ask for a reasonable and fair refund based on his misrepresented auction. (Plus, he works for a newspaper in Topeka...criminy, what was I thinking...!)

Steer clear.
