Paul SThanks for the explanation. I understand it to mean that the rejected cards are assigned the numbers in the grading co. database just for reference purposes.
Condolences if yours are in fact trimmed 
And yes, I'd think a bell going off in a grader's head about 30% of the time in a batch of cards would be enough.
