Default Why Do Oldtime Dealers over grade their cards?

Posted By: Marty Pritchard

My thought is the best way to judge how someone grades is see if they use the same scale when you sell to them. If they do, they are not trying to over grade their stuff, they are being consistant. If they slam your cards, take them back and discuss their cards and prices. Everyone uses their own judgement with raw cards. Mail order is really the only place that a grade is of value. In person, a price is a percentage of book and is either acceptible or not. With mail order, it is wise to place a small order the first time, or verify the return policy.
