I used the term rookie in two cases; 1) where there is no debate, such as the E90-1 Jackson; 2) where there is at least some reasonable argument that it was the player's first distributed card.
Look at the debate we had recently on the Cobb rookie- we had about ten different candidates.
And to add, yes I have recently sold more than one card of a player where I called it a rookie. I try to distinguish between a nationally distributed issue vs. a very minor or obscure one. If you ask me do I know every player's rookie card, no I don't. I still think the N172 is Nichols rookie, and nearly everyone disagrees.
