To learn the correct pronunciation, go buy the 4 cd set of The Glory of Their Times. On the 3rd cd, track 1, is Larry Ritter talking with Smokey Joe Wood. Wood played with Lajoie. First Ritter, and then Wood, both pronounce it the same way... which is the way I suggested in that other thread.
I really think these guys had it right. Listening to that cd is a great experience, well worth the cost of the cds. I recommend buying an unslabbed set of the cds so that you can actually enjoy them.
