Hal LewisI am willing to bet that these large auction houses do so much business with the grading companies that they have arrangements set up to let them get "PRE-SLAB" grades assigned to the cards...
and then have the option of getting them slabbed...
or taking them back and selling them unslabbed.
If they like the grade given by the grading company, they get it slabbed.
If they don't like the grade given, they take it back unslabbed and assign THEIR OWN grade that is invariably higher than the one from the grading company.
