I'd leave it in the zoo pen, and if an elephant happens to step on it an elephant happens to step on it. You aren't respensible for act of elephant.

At the zoo in the city where I grew up, a drunken man got inside the polar bear area and, with the man still inside, the police shot the polar bear. Numerous residents thought that that if they had to shoot, they picked the wrong animal.
