Keith O'LearyLeon gave 3 tell tale signs. Another thing to look for is "compression" caused by cutting pressure. Look on the side edges (all 4), I once heard someone compare it to sqeezing a slice of bread...it just doesn't quite bounce right back. I thought that visualization explained it well. Also, all 4 edges should have about the same amount of "dirtiness".
