"A more spectacular exhibition took place soon after the 1927 World Series, when the legendary sluggers "Babe" Ruth and Lou Gehrig barnstormed through town as part of a nationwide tour. As part of the visit, each Yankee headed up a team (called the "Bustin' Babes" and the "Larrupin' Lous," respectively) and solicited the best local players to fill the team rosters. Their visit attracted over 3500 fans to the stadium, and many youngsters were reportedly the lucky recipients of long fly balls that day."
