Default pre war... buble baths, slicing, dicing, and coloring

I was recently told by a dealer to give my t206 card a "bubble bath" to clean up the card. How often do cards get cleaned, altered, trimmed, etc.. and then get holdered?

I would not even consider the thought of any of the above. Apparently this happens quite frequently. Anyone have any thoughts?
