The fact that the line is there on the bottom third of the card suggests to me that the rest of it appearing to be missing is not a result of a bad scan. How would a scan just eliminate a black line like that, and why wouldn't it make the rest of the card look odd too? I am not saying you aren't right, it just strikes me that that is likely not the explanation.
