Default Auction Fraud Survey

Posted By: Bill Cornell

Received the topical email below today - it's an online auction fraud survey sent to all who have filed a complaint with the IFCC (Internet Fraud Complaint Center).

***********************************
February 21, 2003

Dear survey recipient:

The National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) Research
Section, in conjunction with Utica College of Syracuse
University, is conducting an online survey starting Friday,
February 21 and ending at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, March 3. We
are reaching out to you to provide information about your
recent fraud complaint to the Internet Fraud Complaint
Center. The purpose of the survey is to gather facts from
individuals who have experienced Internet auction fraud.

The survey is located at
http://www.nw3c.org/onlineauctionsurvey. In the survey, you
will be asked general questions about your fraud experience,
your efforts to reconcile the fraud, and your resultant
interaction with support agencies and/or the auction house.
Demographic information will also be collected to establish
general statistics about the survey respondents. You will
not be asked any questions that will identify yourself or
the subject of your complaint to IFCC. The online survey
submissions will be via a secure link on the NW3C web site.

On behalf of the NW3C, I want to thank you in advance for
participating in this survey. Your information is crucial
to helping us understand all components of Internet auction
fraud. If you have any questions or difficulties with the
survey, please contact me via e-mail at shaantz@nw3c.org.
As this survey is being conducted by the Research Section,
we cannot provide information on your IFCC complaint. Your
support of this project is valuable to understanding auction
fraud. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Sandra H. Haantz
Research Assistant
