I'm not sure that's true. There was a Rasmussen poll a few years back which showed that ~60% of Americans viewed Jackie Robinson favorably, 4% didn't like him, and 36% didn't know who he was. That's a 9 to 1 ratio of the population that doesn't know who he is vs those who don't like him. If statues are stolen at random by people who either have no clue who he was or who despise him, and never stolen by those who look up to him, then the odds were pretty heavily in favor of the theft having nothing to do with race.
