Default SGC Grading Date? (Reholdering from old slab to new slab)

I reached out to SGC to ask about the grading date that appears on their card verification database. Apparently, that "grading date" could be either the date the card was actually inspected for a grade OR the date that the card was reholdered into a new slab. In addition, SGC assigns a new card certification number when a card is reholdered.

I appreciate that in an ideal world, the grading standards for a card slabbed 10 years ago are the same as those for a recently graded SGC card. This said, the implication seems to be that a card in a new SGC slab with a recent grading date might just be a recently reholdered card.

Any thoughts on this?
