Default Old Town, Maine | Baseball Team | WF Chute | circa 1915

I bought this small team snapshot (and a few others I may post about later) last weekend at a flea market in Texas. This snapshot and was a throw in with the others.

At first glance I figured it would be impossible to place the image. I thought the uniform looked around 1915 give or take.

Once I scanned it and zoomed in, I could see the name "WF Chute" vertically down the middle of the jersey. I googled that name and came up with 2 eBay listings relating to shopkeepers by that name - one in Washington state and one in Maine.

I made a few phone calls to local libraries and my new friend Elizabeth in Bangor, Maine sent me an article from the Bangor Daily News, dated Dec 31, 1914, about a WF Chute who purchased and was operating a team out of Old Town, Maine.

This made perfect sense and the "OT" insignia on the upper part of the jersey verified that this was indeed the same squad in "Old Town"

I'm still uncertain as to exact year, but think circa 1915 is a pretty good guess. I found another newspaper article with additional info regarding Old Town and the Eastern League in Maine.

Thought y'all might find it interesting.
