Today is the 49th anniversary of Nolan Ryan's 2nd career no-hitter- his best!
California Angels RHP Nolan Ryan's pitched his 2nd career no-hitter on July 15th, 1973 against the DET Tigers.
This was Nolan's 2nd no-hitter in two months in his amazing 1973 season in which he also set the single season MLB record of 383 K's.
This was absolutely his best no-hitter out of his seven career no-no's.
17 K's in 9 innings and according to one quote from the Tigers "He had everything..."
It was so futile that Tigers 1st baseman Norm Cash came out to take his at bat with a table leg as a joke in the 9th inning. When Home Plate umpire Ron Luciano asked him to get a real bat, Cash exclaimed "that it didn't matter because he wasn't going to get a hit anyway".
Here's a toast to Nolan Ryan the All-Time No-Hit King!
