I think that the latter depends on your perspective, since it isn't really a rookie. Things tend to change over time. It wasn't that long ago that Cobb's 1907 postcards weren't considered his rookie cards, Beckett listed the '33 Goudey Ruth as his rookie, and the R314 DiMag used to be considered one of his rookie cards, rather than a 1937 instead of a 1936 issue. Personally, I'll take the earlier, rarer ones every time. And by the way, regionals are in no way disqualified from rookie status.
