Great story and sorry to hear about your friend. I started collecting around that time and I know I am in the minority, but I am a big fan of the wood grain bordered sets like the 1962 and 1987 Topps just because that is when I started buying packs and chewing that 15 second gum back in 87. It definitely takes me back to my childhood when i just flip thru those cards. I love the junk era and realize there is not much value but its definitely a time machine of sorts for me.
