Default Walter Johnson Full Page Handwritten Letter Signed

WALTER JOHNSON FULL PAGE HANDWRITTEN LETTER One page handwritten letter dated March 10th 1940. Signed by Baseball's legendary "Big Train" Walter Johnson. Comes with an auction loa from jsa. The letter written on Johnson's personal letterhead is addressed to a fan named "Kenny" and reads in full "Your letter came and thanks alot. I appreciate hearing from you. They have left me busy here lately and I will guess till the primary is over May 6th than if I get through that I will have more work to do. I am sorry I don't have a photo right now but I will get some soon and would be glad to give you one. Good Luck to you , Sincerely Yours Walter Johnson" Both the text and signature have been boldly scripted in blue fountain pen. At the time of this letter Johnson was campaigning in the Republican primary for a congressional seat in Maryland's 6th district. His popularity easily carried him to victory in the primary , but he lost the general election to his democratic opponent, William Byron. The legendary Big Train who passed away in 1946 was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall Of Fame and his signature today especially in the form of a handwritten letter is highly prized by collectors. The letter measures 8 1/4 x 9 3/4 which has two horizontal folds , displays slight surface paper loss and a few minor tears along the left border from having once been mounted in an album. The letter has subsequently been affixed to a red cardboard backing equal in size to the letter. NICE! $1,800 ppd
