After the boy left, he went to the crossing guard outside, and asked who the boy was. He called up the boys mother and returned the cards. Turns out he had taken them from his grandpa who had an extensive collection. I would do the same in this situation. If I couldn't afford to make a fair offer, I would help him find a way to sell it.
