My collecting goal this year centers around Brooklyn's first and only world championship back in 1955.
The 1956 Topps Brooklyn Dodgers 24-card subset is a great fit to that 1955 team in that it has a team card, a manager card (Alston), and player cards for all the key players and even most minor ones. However, there are 4 Dodgers from the 1955 WS who are not included--
- Frank Kellert, Russ Meyer, and Don Hoak are all shown as Chicago Cubs since they joined the Cubs immediately following the 1955 season.
- George "Shotgun" Shuba is not in the 1955 Topps set at all.
I am a big "display guy", so I have a handful of options. I'm curious what you all think is best. For what it's worth, my display case holds 28 "landscape" cards in seven rows of 4.
- Build my display without these four guys - maybe filling the slots with other 55 WS-related cards or items.
- Use the 1955 Golden Stamps series for these four players since it includes all four as Dodgers
- Use 1956 Topps for the three Cubbies and use the stamp for Shuba only
- Use 1956 Topps for the three Cubbies and use 1955 Bowman for Shuba
- Use 1955 Bowman for Hoak, Shuba, and Meyer and use something else for Kellert (1956 Topps Cubs, 1955 Topps Archives Dodgers, 1955 Golden Stamp)
- Something different
I know there are a few other display guys out there that run into this kind of situation. Luckily, I have a while to decide since I only have 9 of the 24 main Dodgers to begin with.
