I'm a big fan of Ol' Pete and feel that in recent years he has become one of the most underrated ball players relative to his accomplishments. Perhaps his cantankerous attitude and heavy drinking diminished his appeal in comparison to that of the gentlemanly, Christy Mathewson [---I, for one, am all the more impressed that late in his career he could be brought in to successfully save game 7 of the World Series while hungover].
