Mark, I assume you don't have a "Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards." I suggest that you obtain one and use its chronological index to see what card set choices are available to you for each of the years you are collecting. This Catalog will provide you with pictures of the cards plus estimated prices; although some of the prices shown are not in line with current market prices, the prices shown will at least give you a reasonable idea as to whether you are looking at a $50 price or a $500 price for a common player.
