Yes, Rose was basically the sport's greatest utility player whereas Jeter is ONLY a shortstop. If Rose had played in the AL at all in his career, he might have added another 200 hits to his total as a DH. Either Jeter just doesn't like to DH, or the Yankees think they should have a .220-.240 hitting power guy in there out of a sense of tradition. Neither attitude benefits the team or helps Jeter get to 4000 hits.
