Hardly unusual for a person in Ruth's day and age, and likely at St. Mary's, to get his left hand smacked with a ruler by a nun if he was writing that way. In fact, even when I was growing up my friends in Catholic school would tell me their similar experience.
When batting I started off emulating my right handed friends. It took me awhile to get the hang of it. And then I tried batting lefty -- that was like stepping inside a Claritin commercial! -- everything is crystal clear. So I ended up a switch hitter. Today, I do different tasks with different hands, but do not consider myself ambidextrous in the exact definition of the word.
