Posted By: LenK
Hi All....just trying to get some feedback on the Obaks....i think they're great looking cards...only have 7 or 8....just wondering how tough are the subsets to complete...any super expensive cards in the set, etc.....overall opinion of Obaks....thanks

Posted By: Anthony S.
The easiest Obak set to complete is the 1910 175 series. The only tough card in that set is Frank Miller (San Francisco). It currently sells at a premium, because one his descendants has purchased several of his cards.

The 1911 set is tougher, but doable. It'll just take longer. The Ten Million card will set you back several hundred. The Buck Weaver is even more expensive.

The 1909 set is pretty tough. The cards don't pop up on Ebay too often, outside of Buy It Now. It's been a couple of months since the last one. They do pop up in the auction house auctions. The most expensive card is the Chick Gandil, probably followed by the Mohler. The set always has about 9 horizontal cards which usually command a little bit of a premium over the rest of the cards.

The 1910 150 series set might be the toughest, but I don't get the sense it's too widely collected.

Posted By: len
Others will know more about the intricacies of the set but some of the more valuable cards would probably be the 1909 Gandil and the 1911 Weaver. Some of the horizontal '09's, if in nice shape, can bring good money too. I think Tbob did a 1910- 150 series subset and completed it? They are tough but not that widely collected, as Anthony said. I pick them up every once in a while...best regards

There are a couple of jewish and mormon players that get premiums. And the Miller always goes strong.

The T212-2 back slogans are interesting, but don't carry a price premium based on scarcity (although some try, they don't get it Just Right)

Posted By: Bob
I know I am in the minority but the 1910 Obak Series of 150 set was tougher for me to complete than the 1909 Obak set. The 1909s are around if you have the patience and the money and don't mind upgrading years down the road but some of the Series 150 cards are almost impossible to find. You can find the first 15-20 but after that it gets rough and when you get to the last 5 you need a lot of luck.
