T205 Production Cut Short?

Posted By: Trae R.
Has a theory on T205 production been discussed at length? I noticed "Base Ball Series 400 Designs" on a Piedmont back and thought to myself, that set doesn't have 400 cards in it. What's up?

-------------------------------------------------
All Things T206: http://www.T206.org

T205 Production Cut Short?

Posted By: J Levine
There has been speculation about this for a long time as the original set is approx. 200 cards and that a second series may have been planned. There are several players missing from the T205 set that had cards in the T206 series and were very popular at that time (Lajoie, Donlin, Wagner, Plank, Mack, Willis, etc.). The t205s could not have been cheap to produce either and some speculate that after the initial 200 it was just too expensive to continue. Some have also speculated that around 1911 there were problems with the tobacco and candy companies fighting over players (Ted Z. has done some great work in this area) and this may have affected the outcome of the second series. Unless company records are ever found concerning this issue, we may never know.

Joshua
