Great story about Gar Miller!

Posted By: boxingcardman
How many other collectors are out there in the 65 and up age range with accumulations like Carter, Miller, etc., guys who built their collections when the hobby was still cheap and disrespected. Wouldn't it be nice to run down one of those accumulations!

Great story about Gar Miller!

Posted By: brian
There are a couple out there now who don't get any publicity and one who has passed away. But 3 million cards? No way any of them have that number. None of them have over 400,000 cards, that I know of. One owns almost an entire town in Indiana and uses money earned from his real estate holdings to finance his purchases. A lot of what I have heard about them is just rumours.

Posted By: peter chao
Brian,

My total collection is around 125,000 so I'm getting there. Sometimes people think that a .01 card is no big deal. However, it is a big deal in terms of potential appreciation. You can easily mark-up a .01 card to .05 and still have plenty of buyers. That's equivalent to selling a $100 card for $500.

Peter C.

Peter C.

Posted By: brian
Peter, yes you are definitely getting there. From what I have heard, the living collectors mentioned who have that many cards, a significant portion of the cards are pre-WWII and the remainder are pre-1980. But, Gar Miller appears to have all of them beat....3 million!?
