E sets...what to buy..what not to buy...

Posted By: Dave F
There are some really terrific E sets out there..my question is which set might be best to be purchasing cards from now? Which set should you hold off on?

From what I've seen...E94's appear hot...and might be better off waiting to see if prices cool a bit?

Maybe E93's and E95's are the way to go as far as buying right now?

And where does this leave E97's and E98's? somewhere in the middle?

E sets...what to buy..what not to buy...

Posted By: Brian McQueen
Hi Dave,

Good question. e94s are definitely hot and now might not be the best time to start this set as you'll be paying aggressive prices to bring cards from this issue into your collection. However, there is some good news. Some people may disagree with me strongly here, but I think that there are some definite E sets that are a bit "cool" right now. The e90-3 set is one of my all-time favorites and I watch this one pretty close. I think this set has really cooled off over the summer. A ton of cards were made available over the summer and now I think the supply has exceeded the demand somewhat. Mastro got things started by offering up a complete set and then a second large lot, then a couple people collecting the set gave up on it which added more cards to the market. Mastro just got done auctioning off another complete set which will add a little more to the marketplace. There are also other sets out there such as e93s, e95s and e96s that aren't exactly "cold" however they typically go for reasonable prices on Ebay which makes them popular with collectors. Good luck with whatever you select!

E sets...what to buy..what not to buy...

Posted By: Tony Andrea
Hi Dave -
I know I might sound biased here since I've been working on the set
now for just about a year, but the E90-1 American caramel set seems
to of cooled off quite a bit. If I would have started the set now
compared to when I did, I would have saved a great deal.
I happened to jump in when the set was hot!!! Similiar to what you
stated about the E94's right now.
This set will rebound. It's to good not to and is loaded with many
hofer's and short printed cards. This would get my vote as far as
what "E" cards to buy right now.
Again, just my opinion.

Tony

Posted By: Richard Masson
E90-1 is the T-206 of caramel cards. It has many of the recurring poses used in many T and E sets of the era and contains just enough stars and rarities to be challenging but not impossible to complete. It also has the largest player list of any of the early E sets. Also, because much of the set is readily available, a large share of it can be completed at a reasonable cost. Always a good buy.

Posted By: Dave F
Marc-
I can just imagine trying any E set from the E103's up through the E107's...would be quite the undertaking.

Brian Mcqueen weren't you trying for an E103 set? Curious how far that got.

Dave

Posted By: Brian McQueen

Dave,

I have gone after e103s before and got to within a single card of completion. I've also owned 5 of the 8 cards necessary to complete the e107 Type 2 set at one time. I've just recently acquired an e103 Tenny, which was the final card I needed to complete the e103s and I've acquired an e107 Type 2 Waddell which would have made 6 out of 8 if I still had the other 5 Type 2s.

Posted By: Bob
I'd agree, definitely stay away from E94s right now
Seriously, E94s seem to be one of the sets that don't get flipped much, once they are purchased they seem to stay buried in collections.

Posted By: nbrazil
dont start collecting E145-2 (CJs). I already have enough competition out there.

i'll suggest e96's, as i did before. yes, no cobb or wagner. but, nice looking set with a quality selection of hofers and stars.
