Gearing up for the next Net54 board contest
Posted By: leon
I am getting ready for the next board contest and am soliciting opinions. I like the "guess the price" of a featured ebay auction as it lets everyone play and it doesn't really "out" an ongoing auction as it's already "featured". I think the closest to the final price is good, over or under.....I do want to contemplate a dollar amount spread that you have to bid with respect to what anyone else has already bid....so someone doesn't bid 1 cent more than someone else.....ideas?? (also, once received one of Hal's books will be included with the prize...which will be a card but as yet undetermined).....best regards

we aren't "Met54" so I changed the title....

Posted By: barrysloate
The guess the price contest works fine, but as I pointed out, when the thread reaches 100 posts it's a great deal of work to make sure you are x number of dollars higher and lower than someone else's guess. Is there any way to make that easier?

Posted By: Rob Dewolf
While I think the reason for trying to implement some kind of "spread" so that you don't get bids that are 1-cent above someone else's is a noble one, I'm not sure logistically how to do it. To ask someone to scroll through an entire page and track existing bids is a bit much, imo. (Plus, if that bidding strategy was OK for The Price is Right, it's OK for me.)

Posted By: Dan Kravitz
How about one of the Boston Garters in Hunt's next auction. The numbers should be all over the board and no one has any idea where they will land.

Posted By: leon
Thanks for the feedback so far. The Garters will have certain increments so I don't really want to make them the contest...there could only be about 10-20 increments on each one and with over 100 board participants on guessing, it would be too cramped...regards

Posted By: martindl

I like the contest pretty much as is - guessing the price on an Ebay item seems to work fine. Regarding a spread, if you use CNTL F, you can pretty easily do a find on the amount you're thinking i.e. if your guess is $2354.89, do a find on 235 and then 234 and it should be simple to determine your bid.

One thing I would change is the ability to have one edit. I think you should get one guess and thats it.
