Posted By: Chris Counts
I'm not sure what is more surprising ... the fact that so little is known about the artists who created pre-war cards ... or the fact that there seems to be little interest in knowing who the artists were.

As far as I'm concerned, the best baseball cards are art. In particular, I'd like to know who painted the T3s and the Obaks, which I believe feature the best pre-war art. These guys deserve to be in art museums ...

And as far as the post-war era is concerned, I'd love to know more about the artist(s) who painted the wonderful Bowmans from 1950 to 1952, and the photographer(s) who captured those amazing 1953 Bowman images ...

Posted By: J Levine
Most of the art for the Obaks, t-3s, t206s, etc. if I recall are colored (painted) copies of photographs. Many are from Horner photos (like the Wagner). It was probably some graphic artist who was just hired to look at the pics and paint them in the tones that were going to be used in the printing process...

Ted Z. might have more info. on this but this is what I recall reading in the past.

Joshua

Posted By: sean
Im fascinated by some of the t3 action shots. They are almost look 3-d. Certainly cards like the goudeys were hand painted by looking at some real photo. What happened to these original paintings?!?!!?
My faves are:
33 goudey paul richards
t206 rube kroh
t205 eddie collins
t3 lajoie
