Posted By: Rich Klein
Could we have the next Rush Limbaugh posting here?

One caller asked about the possibility of having Jeffrey Lichtman fill in for Sean Hannity. Phil’s response was that Lichtman is fine for the WABC morning show but not yet ready for syndication. I found this an odd position for the PD of a major market station. It seems to me that WABC should try to sound better than syndication! Any local station can stitch together a schedule of syndicated offerings. A major market powerhouse should try to exceed that level of programming, IMO, and create a unique, vibrant, localized and cohesive station that's better than the sum of its parts

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Ha! I'm just a country lawyer in NYC who happened to have the fortune to cross-examine one of the hosts of a popular morning show on WABC during a very public criminal trial last year; it went badly for the host (went well for me) and after the trial was over I was asked to co-host some shows with him. With zero experience in radio I gave it a shot and enjoyed it. Over the past 10 months or so I've hosted my own show on WABC on occasion and otherwise filled in as a host on the Curtis & Kuby show on the station. (Curtis being Curtis Sliwa of Guardian Angels fame) I fill in ususally a few times a month from 5:30 am to 10 am and was on all last week (and apparently this coming Monday as well). It doesn't impact my legal career and I enjoy it so it's been fun. As for that question and answer that Rich pulled from a show last week with WABC's program director Phil Boyce, I mentioned on air the next day that Phil was just trying to knock my salary drive off track. Seriously, Phil is a savant when it comes to understanding radio and I've learned that he's right pretty much 100 percent of the time so I defer. As for Rush Limbaugh comparisons - yikes - he's way too right wing for me. As for doing this stuff fulltime, I doubt it as I really love being a trial lawyer first and foremost. Though trying to succeed at a completely new career at my age has been a challenge which I have enjoyed as well.

And his cross was the ugliest I have ever experienced or seen. When I sat down next to him to do 3 days of radio with him (5 hours a day) just a couple months later, I honestly expected him to attack me on air. It was that ugly previously. To my great surprise, he was great, totally professional. We get along really well now which is something we both still cannot believe.

On the one hand he formed the Guardian Angels, which in theory were helpful in ridding the city of street crime, and yet he also seemed to get under everyone's skin and create enemies. Whatever happened to his ex-wife Lisa? She always looked good with that red beret.

Was there ever a time when half the people in the country weren't wishing for the admin. in power to flounder and run the country into the ground? Posted By: JimCrandell
Barry,

I don't think its necessarily the war that is causing the great partisan divide. Two very polarizing issues are:

1)There are a substantial number of Americans who think that the massive killing of unborn children is a huge issue and who think that marraige should be between a man and a woman. There are a substantial number who think differeently. I know people on the right feel very strongly about this issue.

2)The income/wealth gap among Americans is growing significantly. The average income of all employees who work at one large investment banking firm in New York was reported to be $660,000 and this includes janitors, secretaries, receptionists etc and you read the paper every day and hear about the huge unfilled demand for $25 million houses, $250,000 sports cars etc. Yet the majority of Americans struggle to make ends meet.

Not trying to stir the pot--just think that it will be a more divided country going forward for some time.

Jim

2)

Posted By: barrysloate
Jim- I agree with both, especially the income disparity between the rich and poor. When I read that the CEO of Home Depot gets canned, then walks away with a $200 million package, I find it very troubling. And minimum wage is locked in at $5.15 an hour. That is a part of America that I find embarrassing and it upsets me terribly.

Posted By: Ryan Christoff
Jim,

You're absolutely right about what polarizes this country. As you know, there is a large population of repressed homosexuals who are doing their best to live a "straight" lifestyle, in spite of the bitterness a loveless marriage to a woman they aren't attracted to brings them. Because it is so difficult to completely deny who they really are, they are forced to take extreme views that prove to themselves that they are the opposite of what they truly know themselves to be. This generally comes out in very strong beliefs in issues they otherwise wouldn't care about one way or another, like who someone else sleeps with or wants to marry. It's how one questions whether Tinky Winky the Teletubby is gay or winds up preaching about the sin of homosexuality at Jesus Camp. It's called a Haggardian Paradox, or Falwellian Conundrum and it must be a difficult cross to bear for you, or anyone else for that matter.

To most of us who aren't so confused sexually, it is totally irrelevant who someone else wants to marry. In fact, many of us think that a marriage between consenting adults who love each other sounds like an okay thing. Then again, you are probably right. Marriage really should be between a white protestant male and a white protestant female. I guess you've changed my mind once again.

Also, I couldn't agree with you more about the mass killing of babies. I think you meant to say "newborn" babies, not "unborn" babies. Unborn babies are pretty harmless and quiet. It's the ones that are already born that we should be killing. With their crying and pooping and constant demands for attention. Come on, babies, grow up already!!! This is America, you chubby bald ones (no offense, Bruce) so pick yourselves up by your diaperstraps and learn to take responsibility for your actions like the rest of us. Let's face it, what this country really needs is more baby killing and less gay marrying.

Also, another advantage of killing babies is that a certain percentage of them would have grown up to become gay and want to marry, so we sort of kill two birds with one stone (or however we kill them) when we throw the baby out with the dirty liberal bath water.

Killing babies since 2007,

-Ryan
