Posted By: <b>barrysloate</b><p>I was just going through an old folder and found a photocopy of 27 T206, all with UZIT backs, that were being offered for sale by old time hobbyist Jack Smalling in the 1980's. I thought I would list them here, as it might add to the known checklist. He wanted $1250 for all 27, and most were EX-MT or NR MT. Posted By: <b>Anonymous</b><p>Jack Smalling of Ames, Iowa? He's famous to me since he invented the autograph checklist system for major leaguers. If you have ever seen an autographed 3x5 with a number in the top/middle and another at the top/right, they are marked using his system. He was also one of the first to sell home addresses of former major leaguers and a true pioneer in the hobby.<br /><br />He should have held on to his UZITs, however. Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Also, none of the six superprinted subjects [Chance Yellow, Chase Blue, Chase Dark, Cobb Red, Evers Yellow, Matty Dark] appears. Maybe he was keeping the Hall of Famers for himself. Posted By: <b>barrysloate</b><p>Richard- I did know that Jack Smalling published a book with ballplayers' addresses to assist collectors who wanted to write to them for autographs. When he sent me the list of 27 Uzits, he also offered a partial T206 set, and then added he had 800 more T206 that he had yet to catalog, many with interesting backs. I can only imagine how many tough ones were in that group.<br /><br />Scot- I looked again and the photocopy is clearly of Berger, Cleveland. Now, he didn't show the back of each card- the photocopy consisted of 27 fronts and one sample Uzit back, but according to him all 27 were Uzits. Did we find a new one?

The amazing thing was the condition of them...a few were beaters but more than twenty looked pack fresh (give or take).<br /><br />Ted Z. probably hasn't gotten back from the Reading show yet, but when he sees these he will have a field day!

And ONE at this point, with so much data in,<br />is very, very important. I'll be eager to see what Bill comes up with.<br /><br />TRex will be excited, I am sure. Two Ex T206's were in the lot, the UZIT (Schaefer) and an EPDG (Rucker).<br /><br />This was in the late 1980's, let's see who on this Forum can guess what I paid for this two card lot ?<br /><br />TED Z

They were organized by team and there were usually about 5 or 6 from each team. There was not a word about the condition or the back or about which of the player's poses was for sale. Prices usually ranged from $.75 for a Tubby Spencer to $2.50 for a Cobb. I don't remember getting a Uzit from him but I did pick up a very wide range of backs. Memories.
