1966- Frank Nagy remembers Walt Corson...and
Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>As many know I was fortunate to acquire Walt Corson's checklists from his collecting days. Here is a tribute to him, from Frank Nagy, written exactly as Frank wrote it in 1966, in his auction publication. Any, and all misspellings and typo's are left the way he wrote them for a true essence of the prose. This is his whole introduction in this auction publication he put out in 1966. Enjoy...<br /><br />Few But Mighty<br />By, Frank Nagy<br /><br /> Received some bad news over a month ago about the passing away of another of our big collectors who helped pioneer this hobby of ours, Card Collecting.<br /> On April 9th Mr.Walter Corson who's house I had the privilege to visit some years ago passed away.<br />... The visit to his house I will never forget. You felt at home from the time you walked in till you left. Both Mr. & Mrs. Corson just couldn't do enough for you and the feeling you had was there house was your house and if you wanted to lay on the couch with your shoes on well just go straight ahead. Another reason I won't forget Walt was the fact that when I left I had every card he had piled into my car which was so full I had to use the side mirror to drive home. To this day I still look over my collection at times but it's still Walt Corsons. By the time I had the opportunity to get his collection many of his cards were sold but I still ended up with a wonderful collection of T & E cards both sports and non-sports. Collectors such as Burdick and Corson just can't be replaced in our field of card collecting. <br /> We newer collectors today enjoy collecting because we use all the information collectors such as Corson and Burdick compiled for us thru the years. Without these we sure would be lost. The time and effort they put in just couldn't be measured in any way. We of the card collecting hobby know there are not as many of us as in some of the other hobbies, but believe me those of us that do collect cards are really die hard cases. Most any kid at times saved cards of some sort but dropped off along the line, but those of us who kept at it will go to any means to get your wants in cards.<br /> As I said in the heading we are few but boy do we go at it. I received an interesting letter from Lionel Carter in which he states that the card collectors convention that is in the making is being (cont'd) prepared for the fall months of either Sept or October. Any news of the correct place and date will be placed in my auction, and am sure in other publications of card collecting. Let's all plan to attend if possible and make it a big success. <br />There is much work in such an undertaking so lets all help in some way and the best way is to attend. I know for myself I will be glad to see many collectors who I have delt with for many years and the stories of cards, trades, deals of all type and stories of collectors will be out of this world. <br /> I am also sure that "Buck" Barker would like to hear from the various collectors around the Country who can send him information about the regional cards put out in your neck of the woods. Send him all the information you can and if you can a sample card would be of much value. <br /> The hobby of card collecting tomorrow will only be as good as we all make it today. Sure we lost Burdick and Corson, But we still have some more of the pioneers left from yesterday who still doing a great job such as Bray, Wagner, Tigar, Carter and Barker to name a few and any project they undertake we all should chip in and make the load lighter. <br /> Any help regardless of size I am sure any of these collectors would appreciate very much.
