ESPN has jumped the shark!

Posted By: DJ
Agreed.

For those of you out of the know, "jumping the shark" means that the program (or station in this case) has finally hit a point where it's suddenly on decline. It is usually tied in to a sitcom, a desparate plea for higher ratings (a wedding, a child is born, celebri) or a point of no return when a character is replaced. Of if Ted McGinley suddenly appears on your show. This was named after the episode of Happy Days when Fonzie jumped the shark.

http://www.jumptheshark.com/

DJ

Posted By: Cat
That writer (can't remember his name) they have as the third anouoncer is pathetic. This is by far the most miserable group that MNF has ever had. They can make a good game hard to watch.

Edited to say: I too was wondering how that video promotion fit in...trying to fit in with a younger demographic...half of all beer is consumed by males 28 and younger (that data is a little old so perhaps the numbers are higher). Beer ads used to be the key to MNF commercial sales.

________________

<a href="http://www.audiocomedy.net/soundboards/jacket.shtml</a" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://www.audiocomedy.net/soundboards/jacket.shtml</a>

ESPN has jumped the shark!

Posted By: David Smith
Tony Kornheiser (? spelling). I really liked the three announcers that used to be on Sunday Night Football on ESPN. Even if the game was boring, those three were entertaining.

I can barely stand these three and I now pass on the halftime show, especially Chris (J-E-T-S. JETS! JETS! JETS!) Berman.

ESPN has jumped the shark!

Posted By: Frank Wakefield
Well this finally made a tenuous connection to baseball.

A few times I've quit watching a baseball game on TV, just so I didn't have to listen to Berman's banter. Years ago it was a bit amusing. It is antiquated now. I hate it. I figure the only reason he's on there is because he had bunches of ESPN stock back before ABC/Disney acquired the business, and now he's in there on some sort of sweetheart "noncompete" deal. I think ESPN/ABC/Disney would be money and ratings points ahead if they released Berman and let the competion have him (as if they would).

That has nothing to do with vintage cards, a bit to do with baseball...

Posted By: davidcycleback
The problem isn't so much that Berman's nicknames are strained, but he uses the same ones for years. Arami 'Well Dressed' Toomer: that certainly didn't get old the 245th time he used it. Even Benny Hill came up with a new joke once every three years (Reporter: "I hear that some of your actors have small peccadillos." Benny Hill: "I wouldn't know about that. We don't share dressing rooms.")
