New York AL Uniforms in T206 set
 

Posted By: <b>Ray</b><p>I'm wondering if any uniform / T206 experts can answer my question. The New York AL players appear to be wearing uniforms inconsistent with those depicted on the Baseball Uniform Database at the Hall of Fame website (<a href="http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/exhibits/index.htm" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/exhibits/index.htm</a>). T206 cards depicting players in their white home uniforms have "New York" across the chest, whereas the home uniforms actually had the NY logo on the sleeve and nothing across the chest. Further, there is no history of them wearing a white hat with red bill during the T206 era, such as depicted on Ball and Chase Throwing cards (among others). However there is a black hat with red bill that was worn as part of the home uniform in 1910.<br /><br />Are the inconsistencies due to the cards being artist drawn, and therefore not necessarily a true representation of the actual uniforms? Did the artist add "New York" to the uniforms simply for clarification and ease of identification? Did I just answer my own question?

Posted By: <b>jay behrens</b><p>Just because the cards were issued from 1909-11 does not mean that the pictures used were current and up to date. Many pictures used are from the turn of century. <br /><br />Jay<br><br>Growing old is not optional, growing up is.

Posted By: <b>T206Collector</b><p>...many photos were taken from before the turn of the century, but Chase began playing for the Yankees in 1905 and Ball in 1907, so there must be another explanation.

Posted By: <b>jay behrens</b><p>since the cards are line drawing of photos, it's easy enough to change a wrong uniform logo to correct one. Back then, no one was too concerned if they got the piping and patches correct. As long as they changed the P to a NY, no one really cared, thus leading to uniforms pictured on t206s, and opther sets, that never existed.<br /><br />Jay<br><br>Growing old is not optional, growing up is.

Posted By: <b>Ray</b><p>Thanks for the responses guys.<br /><br />I guess there was a certain degree of artistic license, whether intentional or not. I just found it odd because in the history of the team there was never a white uniform with New York across the chest.
