I need about 8-10 to finish off the 1947-66 set and about 25-30 Salutations. They sell pretty strong on ebay--at least the tougher ones. I tried to win some SGC graded ones from B&E or someone else recently and they sold for NM book prices on SGC80 or EXMT cards. Just don't see some of them in that nice of condition sometimes (SGC80 and up that is.....). <br /><br />DiMaggio and Williams can be found below book because it's widely believed they were produced well into the 1947-66 series and they're pretty plentiful except for the scarce version of Williams, I believe. <br /><br />I think Adam Warshaw collects exhibits pretty heavily and can probably contribute more than myself........

Of course, I don't view it as a distinct set because some of the more popular Salutations of guys who lasted into the 1950s were printed into the 1950s on the same sheets as "regular" Exhibits. I tend to treat both the salutations and the 47-66 cards as one issue. Because of this, DiMaggio and Williams (no #9 shows) are easily found in high grade. I'd not contest the one on ebay too heavily; there are a lot more out there. <br /><br />The SCD catalogue does a pretty good job of breaking down the rarities by value (I will say, however, that the pricing is not necessarily reflective of what the rarer cards will draw at auction). Generally, the cards issued exclusively prior to WWII are expensive and scarce; the rest are readily found. Gehrig is the big prize, of course, but Averill, Gehringer, Gomez, Hartnett, Klein, Kreevich, Newson [sic] and Russell are also very tough to find. Dean, Greenberg (very truly yours), Grove and Williams (#9 shows) are also tougher cards too but definitely not on the same tier as the others. The printing variations also are toughies to find but often overlooked by sellers. <br /><br />Edited to clean up my spelling and atrocious monday morning grammar

For example, I recently won Salutations of Ott and Foxx, the latter who did not play after 1945 and who therefore was presumably not re-printed in the 1947-66 sheets? As for Ott, he played 4 games in 1947, so technically was active when the 1947-66 exhbits began--do you have any knowledge as to whether he was re-printed into the 50's and 60's? Any help appreciated.

Posted By: <b>warshawlaw</b><p>The long answer is that many of the HOFers who retired during WWII or shortly after are definitely easier to obtain than the cards listed above as difficult but not as easy to obtain as DiMaggio, the pitching pose of Feller, Williams no #9, etc. The SCD pricing is fairly reflective of this difference.

Posted By: <b>warshawlaw</b><p>Clean Sweep auctioned off an uncut sheet from the late 1950s which has the Williams on it. Also has several cards from early in the 1947-66 series. I won it at auction and eagerly await its arrival. Here is a scan:<br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1118356167.JPG"> <br /><br />As you can see, the Salutations Williams is 3rd from the right in the top row. Right next to him is Colavito in a Detroit cap. Colavito was traded to Detroit for Harvey Kueen during the offseason after the 1959 season, which pegs the sheet as issued no earlier than late 1959. This of course proves that ESCO issued the Salutations Williams into 1960. At least.
