Why has Steve Evans become so valuable??

I've been away from t206's a few years but i was just scrolling down the highest sold t206's page and it's nothing but Cobb's and Steve Evans. What am i missing??

One dumbass paid stupid money. See main thread

Short answer: it didn't

Long answer: several weeks ago, a buyer names Steve Evans was buying all the cards he could of his namesake, and money was no object. The market adjusted (ie tried to figure out, what if any, upper limit there was on the price he's willing to pay). Sometime around the 2nd week of December, he stopped buying (or at least stopped publicly paying stupid prices), and the price is now beginning it's long slide back down to where it belongs. It's being propped up by people who only know "comps" assuming that a card that sold a few weeks ago for a couple of grand is a bargain at $400 and not an overpriced $60 card

The old "more money than brains".

A PSA 3 MK Bray Collection sold for $652 on eBay on Dec 27, but there was a p/f Evans that went unsold starting at $150 last night. I think he's still out there. He should buy the SGC 7.

I have a feeling that the T206 Evans buyer only purchases on Ebay, and maybe doesn't know about auction houses or not comfortable with branching out, so it is likely a seller of these T206 Evans cards needs to list them on Ebay (the unsold one for $150 that was mentioned was up for auction at Sterling).

I jumped on the money wagon and sold mine. I sold mine Dec. 10th or 11th. I believe I was one of the last ones to get in while the gettin' was good. I got $2800 for mine. I paid $12 for it in 2013. I don't regret it one bit. Nobody was taking advantage of the guy; he knew what he was doing...

What was he doing? Do you know and can't say? I guess it's just me that thinks the whole thing was/is bizarre.

You are speaking in the past tense and I'm wondering if the buyer from 2 days ago at $652 was a new buyer.

I agree with Brian that he should branch-out and collect other cards in other venues. The buyers' premium still exists on eBay, it's just baked into the cake.
