Bought from Lelands who sold it as it is IDed in the PSA holder as Lefty Williams with Nashville circa 1913.

But I received this message today about this photo (which I have listed in the BST) saying they believe it is Bob Williams a New York Highlander catcher from the same time period...

Thoughts? Is wrongly labeled? IDK Im not an expert on the uniforms. It resembles Lefty Williams but cant be sure

Also it is very hard to get a good scan or photo of this bc its encapsulated

The cap on his head looks like a Yankee cap from 1911 or 1912; Bob Williams was on their roster during both of those seasons. I think it's him, not Lefty.

Here are a couple of profile shots of Lefty for comparison and a shot of Bob - pretty similar IMO. I would vote Bob because of the cap.

Out of the two I'd vote "Bob". Note the same ridge-line at the back of the ear drum.

Definitely not Lefty.

Also, hard to tell without having it in hand and feeling the paper, but I'd question if that was even a Type 1. The borders have definitely been trimmed down based on how perfect they are. That in itself is not something photo collectors generally care about, but it gets it down to a size that's generally more accepted for that time period, and hides any clues along the edges of the photo of it being a later printing.

Brown Bros., rarely took their own photos, so a stamp from them doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Just that it's old, but not necessarily what we consider "Type I" today.

A simple question

Don’t know if you’d considered this yet because it’s so obvious…. did “Lefty” Williams bat right handed??? ( as in this photo). Addendum…… checked it out and Lefty did bat right handed so no help there.
