They mentioned that the boys used to collect tobacco tags before the baseball cards were introduced. I had never heard of this area of collecting. Apparently, they were first introduced in the United States in the mid-1800s. They were small metal discs used to label and seal tobacco tins from the mid-to-late 19th and early 20th centuries. Here's a picture. I guess I just learned something new about something old. :D

And fifty Cobbs for a Wagner, meaning a Wagner was $100; although the offer was apparently turned down and likely a smart move because today a Wagner is worth well more than 50 Cobbs, even the green ones.

Just when you had the impression that people didn't know or care about the dangers of tobacco long ago, you have this...

“Is any concern selling these coffin-tacks warranted in making this tempting bait to the children?”

That is so cool that Wagner is identified as being a tough card, and the article even has a cartoon celebrating this. Nice digging job Pat!

Just shy of $70
Most cigarettes were 5 cents a pack in 1909

Another great article Pat mentioning T206 Wagner (a good possibility, though it might be referring to one of Wagner E-cards).

Most likely this magazine was from Louisville, not only because of the shown T210 cards of players from Kentucky, but both addresses in the article popped up as existing in Louisville.
