Dallas Card Show (March 3-6) (Photos Added)

https://www.dallascardshow.com/

Anyone else here besides me that is planning on attending in March that either lives in the area or is flying out?
  • What dates will you be attending?:

  • What will you be looking to pick up?:
  • Will you have a table set up?

sb1 02-24-2022 05:42 PM

I set up regularly, in the main room, second row center of the room(don't think they assign table #'s).

Will be buying, selling and taking consignments. Mostly vintage, but have a large purchase of 1980's - 2000's stars, patch, auto's, vending boxes, unopened, binders, sets, etc. that I will be wholesaling and retailing the first two days.

I usually go walk around for a few hours. There is some decent vintage but about 85% is new stuff. It's still something to do and a bad card show, which it isn't, is better than a good day at (most peoples) work...
.

John1941 02-25-2022 09:31 AM

I'll probably be there on the fourth or fifth. I had a great show last time -got six 1933 Goudeys, seven Zeenuts, some good dime cards, and about 10 1959 Topps cards, all for great prices. Admission is steep, but was worth it that time.

Rich Klein 02-25-2022 10:20 AM

I'll be in the Starlight (near the Garage) room doing my COMC work. I was bought out at the last show and it will be a while before I put things out for sale again.

After selling out, I wanted to go back to my roots and waited to purchase Toppa 1 at my LCS. I will buy some cards at this show.

Rich

I'll have to stop by your table Scott. I will be there all-day Friday and maybe a little bit on Saturday morning to kill a little bit of time before I have to head out somewhere else nearby.

If anyone wants to meet up, feel free to shot me a message and we can walk the floor together for a bit or grab a beer.

Just reserved for May

But I suppose that will be a different thread!

mrreality68 02-26-2022 08:21 AM

A good recap and some pictures would be appreciated

Will not be at this one

Will be at Nationals in AC

jasonkaiser25 02-26-2022 09:04 AM

I live 15 min from the Convention Center so I'll be there. And like the last few shows, I'll be hunting for a low grade 51 Bowman or 52 Topps Mays.

I think I could accommodate that request.

Jewish-collector 02-26-2022 02:48 PM

I'm guessing that this show is not going to have much vintage. It's probably really just a lot of the shiny stuff. But let us know whoever goes. Thanks !!!

Rich Klein 02-26-2022 03:29 PM

There are some pretty good vintage dealers:

Roger Neufeldt
Jerry Adamic
Scott Brockleman (I knew I'd forget people)

Wendell Bell (Football)

I forget his name but the gentleman to the left when you walk into the main room.

And a few other vintage people scattered around both rooms.

Yes primarily modern but I think Leon got the percent right at 85 newer material. But with that many tables there are some other vintage people but if 20 percent of 600 is vintage that means 120 tables and I've only named about 10 percent of that 120 tables. So worth going but understand the preponderance will be modern

I will also add the Starlight room (nearer the garage) has more "less-modern" stuff and is a pretty good room unto itself. And it's carpeted!

About 20% of the tables are vintage, that being mostly postwar Topps, Bowman, etc not a lot of pre-war.

In the past I have brought quite a bit of pre-war and not gotten much interest, so I am saving it for the National crowd and bringing more 1950's to 2000's stars, sets and nice commons for this one.

Could you bring a little cheap beat-up pre-war for me? :D

How was the show for those who attended?

I'll be going tomorrow and will post a little review along with plenty of photos.

sb1 03-04-2022 05:42 AM

Far fewer people at the show today compared to the Thursday of the last show.

Market is changing people are being cautious.

Rich Klein 03-04-2022 06:59 AM

The Starlight room was actually busier than the last couple of shows for Thursday Night.

John1941 03-04-2022 04:58 PM

I was underwhelmed this time. I did very well last time, but it was not worth admission today. Spent $20 on cards. $15 on 184 dime cards, and $5 for a 1949 Remar Chuck Dressen.

Johnny630 03-04-2022 05:18 PM

I hear the Philly show is rocking and rolling....dealers have reported a lot of raw card sales...graded not so much....a lot of let me think about it then to raw.
Many are priced out of graded.

Rich Klein 03-04-2022 08:21 PM

We are set up in the Starlight room doing out COMC work (since I sold all my cards at last show) and we have already had a very good number of submissions in terms of both cards and people doing submissions.

Today was slow in the Starlight room until about Noon-1 but then was pretty busy until about 6 PM.

Main room was busy but not jammed from what I saw

Foo3112 03-04-2022 08:53 PM

I attended the show today. I heard yesterday was pretty slow and a lot of dealers weren't even there. Most arrived Thursday night to attend the Friday - Sunday, instead.

The show seemed to start out slow but by 2pm, there was a lot of traffic. Busy isles. I saw a lot of people buying and seemed to be having a good time. Lots of kids too. Last time I attended was in October and this time around, I didn't see as many people hauling pelican cases (which was quite nice). The mood was good overall. Traffic was flowing and people were buying. I would say that at least 80% is modern and the other 20 is vintage.

You will find graded cards from all of todays companies, not just the big three (PSA, Beckett, JSA). Lots of SGC amongst others but EVERYTHING is compared to PSA grades. I took a lot of photos but I'm just too tired right now to post them. I am going back tomorrow for a little bit but then I have to head out early to be somewhere else, but I should be able to post photos tomorrow. As far as pickups, I only went for one thing and was able to find a copy I liked. A 1996 Topps Kobe Bryant PSA 10. I actually got a great price on it.

jasonkaiser25 03-05-2022 01:32 PM

Question for those of you familiar with this show - I noticed several tables set up in one of the main hallways for DCS Grading.... Dallas Card Show grading. My understanding is that this company is owned by the promoter of the show. They were selling DCS graded cards at the show. Seems like an extreme conflict of interest. The grading company selling their owns cards??

Maybe I'm missing something - are they a consignor??

Show was busy but not as busy as times past. I really struggle with the pricing. I thought the new tax requirements would get some vendors to sell below Ebay comps, but every time I asked what the price on something was - I was told what the item sells for on Ebay. Even when I offered cash on a few things, the lowest the seller would go was 5-10% above Ebay comps. SMH

Older Dealer at that show had a 51 Bowman Mantle for 4K over VCP average. I told him what the comps were and he said he didn’t care and that he will eventually sell it one day. I encountered a lot of very high prices and stale inventory that I know was there the last few shows. I think that’s the problem today, the dealers can’t adjust down and won’t acknowledge that the COViD craze is over.

carlsonjok 03-05-2022 08:27 PM

I was in Shreveport yesterday to take two of my long-term employees out for a retirement celebration, so I bunked down in Longview and hit the show today. I managed to do well on my set builds, picking up 8 of the remaining 18 I needed to finish 1965 (including decent deals on the Niekro RC, Banks, and Uecker) and about 70 of the 240 odd cards I still need for my 1969 set.

I only was in the main room, as I didn't even know the Starlight Room existed. It was crowded, but less so than the last time I was there which was, if memory serves, March of last year. It would have been a perfect day if there wasn't some chucklehead driving 30mph on I-35. I was boxed in and had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting him, which caused a brake line to either pop loose or split. I had to limp home from Ardmore with very little braking power.

Dealers don’t care about comps they’re rationing nowadays days is if I can stick it up someone else’s rear end another day it’s worth the wait. Especially around the national a lot of naïve people who aren’t as educated but are starry eyed with lots of money come and spend at that show. I’ve seen it over and over again over the years.
