35 inch pano pic. Town team? Anyone recognize the jerseys?

Found this at a thrift store today along with 3 old bats.

“PHILA” on the front of a couple of jerseys and “R” on most. “R” and “P” also on hats.

Thanks!

Is it just me, or does the guy in the second photo (sitting next to the guy with a Babe Ruth physique) look like Ty Cobb?

Nice thrift store find, Chris!

Confounding. What can the "Phila" on the shirtfronts suggest other than Philadelphia? And the "R" would certainly suggest
Reading, which has had a farm team, long associated with the Phillies, almost continuously since the 1880s. And yet,
neither the A's nor the Phillies ever wore a uniform matching the "Phila" unis seen in the photo, at least according to

Perhaps a better view of what's in the background might help...

Just a guess

Looks more like a town picnic photo of a hundred or more people with a few people showing up in baseball uniforms to play some recreational ball as was common "back in the day".

might be one of the early railroad teams

You have to also remember that there are multiple cities named Philadelphia other than the one Pennsylvania.

Thanks everyone! I believe this is a town team as well.

Regardless of what the team is, that is a GREAT thrift store find!

Agreed! Was pleased even to be able to go into a thrift store after COVID shut downs.

It may only be a town team, but it's a fantastic display piece. If you look on eBay, you can find hundreds of old obscure team photos of various sizes, but it's very difficult to find vintage baseball panoramas — it's mostly copies that are available. As for taking it apart and looking on the back, I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like ...

Classic_Auctions, I assume you mean the one in Pennsylvania, although that pales in comparison to the Philadelphia in the bible.

Faint remnants of what might have been a photographers mark.

We were referring to the original Philadelphia, the ancient Greek city.
