Just picked up a Gehrig Stand Up AD. How did I do?

I worked out a deal with a guy on ebay who just picked it up today at a flea market in PA.

Thought this would look great in the man cave.

Does this appear Authentic to you guys? Didn't spend a fortune on it but spent a decent amount where it's worth taking a chance. Hopefully I was right. It just looked so cool. Any clues to it's value? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I didn't hit Jackpot lol It's still cool looking right? I probably spent more than I should now. Do you know what that sold for? I paid $100 for the man cave.

Awfully nice of them to scratch out the production date for you.

When you see things like this take a moment and really look at it and ask yourself a question. Why are the two gloves different

Just little things that make a difference.

You can buy this at the wholesale shops for $7.99 each in bails of 25

There are two for sale now on ebay, and one has a clear description that it's a fantasy piece. Doing a little research first, before jumping in on a piece you know nothing about, will save you some heartache. But no biggie - you took a shot and it didn't work out. At least it didn't cost you too much.

...and the beat goes on

Is this the guy you bought it from? if so, the listing is still up or the guy has another (or many). It's not a BIN, so why the rush? why buy first and ask questions later?? anyway..live and learn.

You are all right. I did look but all I saw was terapeak. I do not have a subscription so I could not tell. I wanted to keep it either way so that's why I did not mind taking the risk as I felt it was a cool looking piece even for $100. I'm putting it right in my man cave OR on my desk at work. I got burned! haha it's okay. I've been keeping track and this year I made $2K in BAD purchases meaning I lost at a loss of 2098 but made gains of 2184 on purchases I have sold at a gain leaving me at a whopping profit of just under $90. Tis why I do not do this for a living lol. Focusing on JUST JACKIE has made collecting easier and A LOT more fun. Plus that is what it's all about. None of us are going to find the holy grail in all probability, but at the end of the day we are all going to die at one time or another so in the meantime as long as this hobby fills us with joy thats worth all the money in the world. AMEN! lol sorry for the rant.

Stephen, as many have stated in this thread alone, PLEASE, PLEASE do a little research on your end BEFORE coming on here and showing off your "prizes". This isn't meant to sound mean, and I apologize if it does, but Google is your friend :)

Sounds mean haha I swear I did google it. All that came up was Tera peak. I couldn't see what it sold for so figured 100 isn't terrible. Turns out it may be lol don't worry I know you mean it in a good way I'm just messing with you.

I came across this piece on eBay late one night. Quickly did some research and within minutes found a Net 54 thread debunking it. Wouldn't have been the first time I grabbed some very impressive looking piece of nonsense.

I thought you were focusing on Jackie now? What does Gehrig have to do with Jackie?

Well being from New York and living here and being brought up a Yankee fan I'll always have a sweet spot for the legends of NY. It wasn't too expensive and it touched me. I can't explain it. Certain thinks catch my eye. I did buy a 1949 all star stub today and a 54 all star photo pack Jackie if that helps lol

I still make some buying mistakes. If I am not making any mistakes I am not doing enough.

Several years ago when I was starting my bat collection, I came across an ebay auction for a Louisville Slugger bat of a guy named Owen Bush. The bat looked pretty old and the auction was ending in less than 8 minutes. The high bid at the time was less than $100.

There were no inch marks on the knob, so I figured I was about to score a valuable bat, since Owen Bush is, of course Donie Bush, famous Tiger shortstop of the Ty Cobb era. Even if it was a vintage store model, I figured I'd be doing okay if I could get it for around $200. Well, I did snipe that bat for something like $150 and spent the rest of the evening patting myself on the back.

A few days later, a USPS medium flat-rate box was delivered to me and inside was the bat. Turns out... it was a mini bat! I frantically went back and looked at the auction listing and sure enough, the measurement of the thing was in the listing, which I hadn't noticed because I was so caught up in the moment, and with the auction ticking down, and so on.

It was my fault of course. I didn't complain to the seller, just learned my lesson and sold it a couple years ago for about a hundred dollar loss. The education was well worth it.

So... don't feel too bad, you have a nice display piece, and it's your hobby. Some people have hobbies like going on cruises, or hitting the casinos, where they might spend a few thousand a year and justify it as "entertainment." And that's fine, but it sounds like your hobby has been basically dollar-neutral, so that puts you way ahead.

Return it as Item Not as described.

I have a similar story with regards to a Jackie Robinson card I purchased when I first joined this site. I noticed it on E-Bay with a few minutes remaining and in my haste I bid on it as I seen a low offer of around $10 dollars or so.
I quickly read the description (not all of it) and ended up winning it, which I thought was a great P/U.

After I won it, I read further and realized it was 1 of 200 printed in 2010!

The original description/ad was definitely deceptive but further down the ad, it was right there and was totally, 100% my fault for not noticing it.

Like, Leon mentioned, if you are not making mistakes, you are not learning. :)
