Addie Joss Autograph

Has anyone ever come across a Joss Autograph? I know it would be tough given when he passed away. How would such an autograph be authenticated?

Re: Addie Joss Autograph

This topic was discussed back in 2012. The link below displays a Joss
autograph sampler, but it might be worth reading from the start of the
post.

So was the Addie Joss signature mentioned in that old Net54 thread ever proved as authentic?

sbfinley 02-17-2016 09:19 PM

Our resident Net54 dentist owns one and it is absolutely good. I know it's been posted here somewhere. I believe it is the same provided in Ron K's book.

All we need now is a podiatrist and we can offer medical services to Net54 members.

I own the Addie Joss in Ron K's book. I am the original owner of the signature and have had it in my collection/ possession since partnering with 2 other collectors to purchase the Nap Lajoie autograph book/ scrapbook at auction in the mid 1990s. I acquired 5 autographs from the book . According to Ron this is the only verifiable Joss signature out there . I am aware of 2 other Joss signatures in the market but they are not accepted as verifiable at this time.
Addie Joss if the other 2 examples of his signature are ever considered authentic is the perfect example of how a person's signature can vary during a short period of time, which can hinder authentication for any signature of any player. I posted a picture of it 2 years ago . I will be happy to post a picture of my Addie Joss again tomorrow if there is any interest in seeing it.

Here is a link to the scan of my Addie Joss from the Nap Lajoie album/scrapbook. One other thing that helped the authentication of this piece is the added Toledo Bee writing also in his hand. Joss had an affiliation with the Toledo Bee also. Please note that I only scanned the signature area primarily, the signature is on an intact full page with 2 pictures of Lajoie and Joss as well. I just did not scan the full page.

I always like some inscription on a piece though many frown at personalization. I think it always adds "something" to an autograph to have some additional writing.
I had been searching for a long time for a nice Janis Joplin piece (long before any of her letters came out). One day I received a dealer catalog in the mail. "Love and Peace Richard Janis Joplin 68" on an album page. Fastest autograph order I ever placed.

Wow that's cool!

That is fantastic! Thank you for being willing to share such a rare signature.

Can I ask what the other 4 signatures you got from the book are?

Wow! Thanks for posting that!

Klrdds 02-18-2016 08:15 AM

The other 4 were :
William Hulbert
Charles Murphy
Thomas Lynch
Charles Ebbets , Sr
A scan of the Hulbert is on the link. Again the scan is of the signature only but the full page is intact.
