The Glory Of Their Times Items

This is honestly my favorite book of all time. I love seeing items related to the book itself, especially correspondence between Larry Ritter and the different players. Please post items that you have or have seen, even just items of the players themselves. Cards, autographs, anything. Especially if it is related to the book however. My interest was rekindled due to a pair of purchases I made.

Rube Marquard's copy of The Glory Of Their Times personalized to him and signed by Larry Ritter.

Marquard Hall Of Fame Passes and his own HOF postcard from his collection.

Great stuff, Tom.

Aside from the cover signatures on this copy of the book, there are a few interior autographs by their pictures: Covaleski, Goslin and Roush.

I'll try to post other GOTT-related items I have later.

For those that have only read the book, do yourself a favor and get the audiobook with all of the original recordings from the players. It's a treat to these guys describe the greats first hand. Jason

+1. I was given an audio copy of this book a few years back as a gift. I keep the cd's in my car and will pop one in while driving occasionally just to brighten my trip.

The version I have is about five hours long and features the players speaking. Is there more than that? If so, where do I find it?

Somewhere I heard that there is like 16 hours of audio. Perhaps that is at the Hall Of Fame only, wasn't sure if it was available for public consumption...or if it exists at all.

A few years ago, Hank Thomas traded my son a copy of the CDs for some modern Walter Johnson card.

Made my son's whole day to do a trade with Hank, but listening to the CDs was an incredible treat for me. My son fell asleep. :)

In any event, as great as the book is, the CDs are that much better; I highly recommend them.

Also - great pieces, everyone!

+1 - I knew there had to be something that Jason and I agreed on.

These are a must for any long road trip. I think David and I listened to them three times all the way through, during last year's drive to Cleveland.

Tom - love the Marquard book. I have the dust jacket from a book that Ritter mailed to a collector, along with an accompanying letter, but I have been slowly divesting myself of all GOT items. I think I still have a Chief Meyers check and a Marquard letter.

I did the CD set, along with Neal McCabe, and there are over 100 hours of Larry's interviews. That I'm aware of, our Highbridge edition is the only audio ever put out, other than the promo LP for the book, which has about a half hour, and Bud Greenspan's marvelous video, which has snippets. You could probably listen to more at the Hall of Fame, which has the original tapes, but other than a particular interest in a player or his team, I don't think you'd find that terribly rewarding. The CDs are heavily edited, and contain all of the best material. Upon finishing the project, we were amazed to realize we had gotten all of what we called the "A" material into the five hours allotted to us by the publisher, and there wasn't anything else we wished we would have had space for. It really worked out perfectly. We've been asked many times about a sequel, but in our minds that has always been out of the question, just no reason for it.
