1990's Topps Wax/Cello/Foil?

I quit buying new baseball cards in about 1992. I am now having trouble figuring out what was actually produced after 1992.

How many years in the 1990's did Topps produce Baseball "Wax Packs" versus "Foil Packs"? Did they create both at the same time? What years in the 1990's did Topps produce baseball Cello packs? I was thinking through 1993.

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried to ask some of the bigger card dealers that same question with no response to date.

Topps had a test issue of foil packs in 1983. They were issued in Michigan. Hopefully someone on the forums can help with the other questions.

I know about the 1983 Test issue already. I am only concerned about the 1990-1999 Topps Wax and Cello packs.

1. Did Topps create "Wax Packs" from 1990-1999
2. Did Topps switch over to Foil packs sometime between 1990-1999
3. Did Topps create cello packs from 1990-1999 (I have a 1993 cello pack in hand)

As far as I know, Topps made regular wax packs up through '91. Everything past '91 was plastic wrapped. Starting in '92, Topps changed the card stock and the packaging.

In 1989, Topps also started using plastic for some wax packs. These were like wax packs (same number of cards, same price), but with a plastic wrapping. I don't think you could really call them a cello pack, because the actual cello packs had a larger quantity of cards. They did this from '89 thru '91 I believe.

I don't know much post '92.

David;

I noticed that if you look on Ebay and at some dealers websites that sell unopened product, they still call them Wax boxes even up through 1999. I have PSA graded "Wax packs" up to 1994. Just wonder on the PSA registry if a foil pack is also considered a wax pack?

Here is an example of a Foil pack from 1994 which I assume replaced Wax packs. I do also see that you can buy 1994 Wax boxes on some sites. Not sure if they are different or not.

On your '92 pack, it the packaging wax or plastic?

As far as dealers calling them wax boxes, I think 'wax' was just a general term used to describe the boxes. I still call them 'wax' boxes even today. Just this past weekend, I picked up a couple 2015 'wax boxes' and the dealer knew exactly what I meant when I asked for them.

I don't open much past '92 - I'm just keeping them unopened and put away.

I believe the 1992 Wax Pack is more like a cello pack. It appears to be a plastic material. I just need to figure out if PSA will allow Wax, and Foil packs in there 1990-1999 unopened set registry. I will contact them. Wanted to have my ducks in a row before I started asking questions.
