Look what I found (and didn't know I had)....
 

As I continue to dig my way out of my organized mess I found this. I thought I had sold all but 4 of my T206s (one must have a type card or four). Anyone else find anything they didn't know they had? (in the way of cards please:))

And yes he is raw but not too bad....might grade a 3.5-4.0 unless there is something I can't see (as there often is).

very nice...I never "find" anything nice like that that I "forgot" I had! I tend to find things I knew I had...but misplaced!

Sometimes I find a stash of crappy Red Sox cards from the 80s. But a $500 card? I know where those are. :eek:

Have no clue how or when I acquired this one, T218 blank back....found it in a drawer a few weeks ago :confused:

Not my card, but a pretty neat story.
I was at a friends house last year and we were looking at his collection. I was going through a box of cards and came across a beautiful 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson. I was commenting on how nice it was and he had forgotten he still had it, he thought he had traded/sold it at some point.

Nice Leon. Great card with the tricky tough back for Sweet Cap.


Several years ago when I was collecting the E98 Master set, I decided to sell all of my E98s and E94s. I took them all out and sold/traded them all in a matter of days. About 4 years later I was moving my (heavy) desk and found an E98 orange Tinker in a PSA 4 holder that had fallen behind. Nice surprise it was!

Not my stuff, but a fun story.

I remember one time I was at a collectors place in San Antonio (before he sold off his collection). I was digging through a couple stacks of his cards and found a few tough T cards in the pile. I asked Brooks why they were just sitting in a pile of cards, he just said he forgot he had 'em. He had so many cool things and a nice 19th century type card collection.

Does anybody that know's Brooks Newell know how he's doing these days? I hung out with him at a few Nationals and lost track of him after he sold off his collection. Great guy!

Found a Cobb inside a large assortment of 63 Topps!
 

I bought them in the 60's - the end panels - from Goodwin Goldfadden (RIP), before I had even ever seen a whole T202 (I knew I had the others kept in an old cigar box). The Topps were/are still inside a large messy box (Gallo Hearty Burgundy, if you must know;)). Just recently I was looking for something else and there was Ty - I had no idea I owned it. I contacted a fellow board member (Hi Brianp-beme) who helped me sell them all on ebay for a tidy sum. Who knew?

Wish I could randomly find a $500-600 card...damnit Leon! ;)

You know you have a card collecting problem when...

Unfortunately Brooks passed away a few years ago. He was a really good guy but often misunderstood. He was also almost legally blind which is unusual for a card collector. He did have a really great type card collection, especially 19th century. RIP Brooks....

Leon, it's not exactly the same thing, but I bought a raw Uzit on ebay. I had it graded, then put it in a bank for a few years. I never forgot that I had it, but for some reason I thought that it graded PSA 1. Four years later I took it out of the box to show someone. That's when I realized that it was graded PSA 4.5.

That was an excellent surprise. :)

Just the other day I was thumbing through my Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract (for the first time in about 2 years) and came across this T205 Bobby Wallace that I completely forgot about.

I think I'll try that with my Wallace to see if he at least loses his cap. :D

Chris- Rector is from my hometown. He ran track while a student at the University of Virginia.

In the London Olympics in 1908 he set the world record in the 100 meters in the semi-finals. That afternoon a South African runner asked him for a lesson on how to use starting blocks. The next day the South African edged him for the gold medal and broke his world record using blocks.

Rector went on the become a Federal Judge in St. Louis.

I found 52 1987 topps john Kruk cards about 3 months ago! :rolleyes:

My favorite forgotten card moment is when I bought a 59 Topps Aparicio/Fox Keystone Combo card off Ebay because it looked cool and had two Hall of Famers on it. Got the card in the mail, looked at it, then went to put it with my cards from the 50's(which isn't a big pile) and there are two 59 Topps Aparicio/Fox Keystone Combo cards. I forgot that I bought a small lot of HOF cards a couple years earlier and they were both in there.

Geez, Leon. Come look through my collection, and see if you don't "find" something I didn't know I had like that.

By the way - If anybody ever visits Leon's house, please be sure to check beneath the sofa cushions, and post a full report of the findings! (I envision the usual stash of loose pocket change, plus some kind of raw sub-set of T-HOFers down there.) :):)
