More Topps Proofs

My favorite proofs are those where a difference exists between the proof and the issued card. Also existing are proofs with more subtle differences.

Okay, I read this thread ... I thought Wow ... that Tim Raines rookie is amazing. I saw the Martin/Yankees team ... and said wow that is amaizing.
But then I saw the Kaline ... and said ... Geesh, why am I not in Al's will? Al - I'm ready to be adopted if you want a "child". Sure I'm in my early 40s ... but that just means I don't need you to pay for college! So adopt me already! |
That Raines rookie is really cool, didn't know something like that existed.

Hard to Find Coke
The regular Coke sets are easy but these unissued Yankees are tough. The last 4 are the issued cards

1980 Topps Coins

Correct me if I'm wrong, the 1980 coins are really prototype coins for a sales pitch for a new product, for some reason they failed to go ahead with production 12 to 14 coins are known to exist. If they were proofs there would be more than one type showing the progression for the final product. Here is the only known Topps Presentation Board to exist showing the coins for a new product, and the only silver coins of Steve Garvey. Flea Market Find near Philly

Proof Sheet

I'd like to post a photo of an unusual Topps proof sheet. This is a 1970 Topps proof sheet which is no where near ready for production.
On the sheet, all that exists are the photos for the cards and the team identification. However, each of the team i.d.s is done in white except for the cards that were later issued in black. They were left blank, there is no team i.d. Also interesting, are the four cards that misidentify the team of the featured player, i.e. Wills as a Royal and not a Dodger, in error. Thanks, Craig |

Proofs
I had not heard of those. For me the most in demand proofs would be the 60 Cimoli/Hadley/Throneberry in different uniforms, although as I recall Bob Lemke said the ones he saw had regular backs, so maybe prototypes or extremely rare variations. Next would be the 77 proofs listed in SCD with poses different from their regular card, the most noted being the R Jackson as an Oriole. I think Bob had an uncut proof sheet with all of them in his office at SCD

Colorful Topps Proofs

In all my years of collecting Topps proof cards I've only come across three different proof cards like the ones I'm about to describe. These proofs differ from the issued cards in one way. The non photo design is normal, however the photo element of the card shows an over abundance of red ink on the uniforms, hats, and backgrounds and an over abundance of blue ink on areas of the skin. Hope you find them interesting and am looking forward to seeing more proof examples from other board members.
