T206 Sherry Magie error from Canada

Adrian has an interesting approach to selling: changing his eBay ID to match the item!

marvymelvin 08-12-2014 10:06 PM

Maybe it is not Adrian!

With the new handle, how do you know it is Adrian? Maybe there is someone else from Gatinaeu who sells big ticket cards on Ebay, who puts the $ sign at the end of the number, who shouts at you in capitals, who adds 20 updates to the original listing??? Hmmm? You know, I might bid, but am pretty sure it will be pulled due to an error in the listing, and show up a few more times on Ebay before all is said and done.

vthobby 08-13-2014 02:07 AM

Same exact card sold on ebay on May 30th, 2014

calvindog 08-13-2014 05:23 AM

Only four revisions yesterday; maybe he started taking Ritalin?

ullmandds 08-13-2014 05:25 AM

It's so reassuring Adrian...YO ADRIAN...is still active in our beloved hobby!

iwantitiwinit 08-13-2014 05:28 AM

My guess is 7200 it's not bad looking for a 1.5 but who knows if he even lets it get to the point of sale.

JollyElm 08-14-2014 12:04 AM

All this and a cheap $150 shipping to boot.

Well that's no fun

I was a rare board member who had something of a tolerance for Adrian. One thing i will say for him is that when he wanted something, he went after it hard. He and I often looked for similar cards and he would pay at least half again what I would be willing to. I have a lot more respect for people…even crazy people…who put their money where their mouth is than I do for big mouth tire kickers. He also would make sacrifices to get what he wanted. When he bought the Plank, he had to sell a classic car he had an affinity for to afford it…again, it was something he was willing to pay a good deal more for than I thought it was worth. I conversed with him a lot and even got to the point of negotiating a bit for his other Magie…and I actually did buy a few cards from him. Certainly and interesting guy. If you're reading this, Yo Adrian.

Shocker!!!

Personally I do not have a whole lot of respect for someone who pays dramatically more than something is worth...makes no sense to me...just seems dumb!

Are you sure you aren't thinking about Nelson (g_vezina_c55 )? He was selling a classic car to get a plank (http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=147104).

I don't recall Adrian ever going for a Plank.

Jobu 08-14-2014 07:07 AM

I have a question about the slab. Why doesn't it denote the error?

Oops - nevermind!!!!

barrysloate 08-14-2014 07:07 AM

Did Adrian overpay because he was a serious collector, or because he was obsessive and compulsive? He struck me as someone who could not control his own life. And every card he paid top dollar for he bailed out of a short time later.

I guess this way he could call it a "no reserve" auction, and still bail out if it looked like he wasn't getting a good price.

Faulty memory strikes again. I think you are correct.

Adrian was a piece of work, however, and I did do a deal with him…wasn't a great one, but wasn't his fault.

A few years ago there was a commercial where a guy bought a painting at an auction and then turned around and put the painting up for sale in the same auction. THAT reminded me of Adrian.

AddieJoss 08-14-2014 09:21 AM

Why was the auction closed? Like many auctions, I was waiting til towards the end to place my bid. Cory

You could read every one of his posts (that weren't deleted) and come up with that answer I am sure.

http://www.net54baseball.com/search.php?searchid=797393

...but prepare yourself for a lot of reading since he did 1,035 in the three months he was here.

i WONDER WHAT aDRIAN WANTS TO BUY NOW...AND HOW THE HELL DOES HE GET THE TYPE TO OVERLAP LIKE THAT IN HIS LISTING?

I think the Overlap is an ebay glitch. It doesn't overlap for me, but I have had other auctions do it do me when looking through auctions. It seems to happen when the person uses multiple sized fonts, but that is the only consistent I have seen when it happens.

bn2cardz 08-19-2014 02:07 PM

" Payment is due within 24 hours!!!"

Wasn't his biggest issue that he always would try and pay a lot later after the auction ended? So he expects more from his buyers, than what he expects from himself.

AddieJoss 08-19-2014 04:08 PM

This auction is now closed by the seller again. I asked the seller a few hours ago why he closed the auction previously and if he was going to do it again. He had some ridiculous excuse that was incoherent about why he closed it previously and said he was not going to close it again. He also had it in the listing that he wasn't going to close it early.

I questioned what he was doing and informed him that he is losing credibility, he replied and told me , "I know, I do stupid things". "I have ADHD".

I am not sure what any of that means, but I'm one of the guys that would consider bidding/buying this, but I'm not nearly as interested when the guy changed his mind in the span of a couple hours and did what he said he wasn't going to do. It is now listed with a minimum (another way of doing a reserve). Very silly.

Nothing Adrian does surprises me in the least...if anyone on here pursues this card...be careful and make sure you have some form of protection.

iwantitiwinit 08-19-2014 06:01 PM

I just looked at this card 2 hrs ago and it was a 24 hr auction with a minimum bid of 7k and a buy it now of 9k. Did he just change it to a 3 day auction with a 9k buy it now or best offer?

Uhhh what the ....... As others mentioned it is a nice card but I'd be wary of lobbing in a bid that could get hit.

iwantitiwinit 08-19-2014 06:46 PM

Holy smokes. He has to just be screwing with people now. Buy it now is down to 8500. Maybe if we wait long enough it'll come in more. Really though I've never seen anything like this. How does this guy get dressed everyday must have only one color shirt and pants. Sad.

iwantitiwinit 08-19-2014 06:55 PM

Round 5 bin just raised back to 10k. Laughable.

ullmandds 08-19-2014 07:53 PM

i don't think he's screwing with anyone...he's merely trying to win the tug of war going on inside his head.

C'mon guys Adrian is a good guy. No one's perfect and we're all dealing with issues in our daily lives. I will say this that in my dealings with him he's always stood by his word. He actually sold me my first batch of CJ's on eBay and as long as your patient with his style of communication he's a teddy bear.

Now it's an auction (again).
$6,100 is the high bid with 6 hours remaining.

I'm betting that Kevin "idiot" Quinn is the ultimate purchaser.
