OT: Greatest Hall Of Fame filled roster
 

With Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and Bobby Cox going into the Hall Of Fame this weekend and Chipper Jones and John Smoltz likely a year away, I got to wonder what teams had the most future Hall Of Famers on it's roster at a single time.

Maybe the 1927 Yankees? There are better researchers here than me, but five Hall Of Famers in one dugout is a pretty huge feat.

Though most were not in their prime or shortly before their prime, the 1927 Philadelphia A's were stacked with HOFers:

Connie Mack

1931 - 33 Yankees - Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, Dickey, Pennock, Ruffing, Gomez, Sewell and Manager McCarthy makes 10. If not counting managers then 9 would also include the 1930 Yankees with Hoyt replacing Sewell on the above list.

In more modern times the early 60's SF Giants had Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal, and G Perry, and for a short time Spahn was on one of those teams too. Not bad for a team that got to the Series only once.

And I think there was a Dodgers team that had Campanella, Snider, Reese, Jackie, Koufax and Drysdale.

But how successful were those 'loaded' teams?

Quite a few on this one. Believe I count 6. Plus. I just wanted to post this card! :)

I don't know when that was written but it is out dated a little bit (it doesn't list the 1924 Giants in the 8 player list) but it is a good start.

That seems to be focusing on periods rather than single year teams. The roster of the 1970 Oakland A's was much different than the 1976 roster.

In recent times you can certainly point to the Atlanta Braves of 1992 as being a very, very rare roster.
